Schools out for the summer! Alright, in true procrastinator fashion I waited till the last minute and wasn’t able to purchase the adorable last day of 1st-grade and last day of preschool flag I remember seeing all over Instagram at the beginning of the school year. So we made our own last day of school flags! It was such a quick and easy DIY project and I LOVE how they turned out!
Want to make your own first day or last day of school flag? Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 pieces of card stock paper – letter sized
- A printer or really good handwriting
- A wooden stick – we used a branch from our cherry blossom tree out back but you can purchase wooden dowels HERE.
- Ribbon – I used 2 different ribbons with different thicknesses to add texture
- Clear packing tape
- 2 Zip ties (or hot glue will work too!)
- Glue Stick
Instructions:
Print out your last day of school flag or the first day of school flag and cut it out. I made it easy for you and included free printables for the first and last day of school flags for preschool through 5th grade. The links are at the end of this post.
Cut an additional piece of paper into the flag shape.
Tape the flags together on the inside of the flag.
Using your glue stick glue the flags together with the wooden stick or dowel in place.
Place zip ties on the top and bottom of the flag to secure it to the wooden dowel. Pull tight, this really helps secure the flag so your child can actually wave it around without it breaking.
Tie your ribbon to the dowel right under the flag.
That’s it! You have your first or last day of school flag!
