This is our first year where the girls actually have a real summer break from school. Piper just finished Transitional Kindergarten and I’m pulling Kenzie from preschool for a few months so we can enjoy some summer fun together! I’ve been working on a Summer Bucket List so I can keep the girls entertained and to make the 9 weeks of summer vacation special for them. We’re checking things off quickly and might even have to add to our list!

Day Trips
- Taking time off to explore our surroundings is always high on my list. Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel and San Francisco are all 30-an hour and 30 minutes away from us. Where can you get away for a day trip? I bet there are some beautiful places with no more than an hour drive!
Take an Airplane Ride
- Any plans for a big trip this summer? We’re going to Chicago to see my family and I am so excited! Hoping for one other flying adventure but we’ll see.
Go Boating
- Check out Discover Boating, it is a resource for helping boaters with any questions they might have. Their guides are extensive for everything from renting a boat locally to purchasing a new or pre-owned boat. There is something about being out on the water that has the most calming effect. I can’t wait to take the girls boating for their first time. Boating is a great way to bond with the family and there is something for each type of person on a boat from fishing, to water sports, or even just soaking up some sunshine.
- Discover Boating can help you find Marina locations near you or on your family trip and help you with your dream of buying a boat. I’d personally love to have one but we don’t have the space to store it! So, for now, we’ll just use Discover Boating as a great reference for renting boats!
√ Amusement Park
- As a kid, we always went to an amusement park during summer break. We took the girls on the second day of summer and had a blast! It brought back all kinds of memories of my mom and grandparents.
The Zoo
- My littlest has never been to the zoo!
Ice Cream Shop
- Sometimes the simplest things are the best!
√ Water Park
- Luckily the closest park has a splash pad, the perfect way to cool off on a hot day!
√ Strawberry and/or Cherry Picking
- I’ve always wanted to do this! We crossed both of these off our list already this summer! Read about it HERE.
√ A Bike Ride by the Sea
- Monterey has really fun bike rentals where you can ride along a beautiful scenic route.
Take The Kids Camping
- We will probably start in the backyard and then go to an actual campsite. Just need to get a tent first! Have you been camping with your kids? I’d love to hear all about it!
Pajama Day
- Doesn’t it sound nice to stay in your pj’s all day long? I can’t remember when I last did that! One day this summer will be dedicated to pj’s and cuddles and snuggles with the family at home.
Bake a Cake
- While in pajamas perhaps?
Do a Craft
Try Something New
- It’s SUMMER after all! Live it up!
