Educational Apps & Online Learning For Kids at Home

Alright, schools out for a while and your home with the kids but still have to work…it’s a challenge. Believe me, I know all about it. I work from home already and know how difficult it can be when the kids have a day off of school and you still have work to get done. I have a whole article with tons of non-screen time activities here but let’s face it, sometimes you just have to let them have the tablet. There are so many great educational apps and online learning resources out there for little kids. Here are a few we love!

Updated April 2, 2020, with new resources.

The London Mother also has a great list of educational apps for kids broken down by age. Head here to check them out.

*no affiliate links are in this post just hoping this will help keep some of you sane… and I’ll add to it as we discover more! Each of these has a free option or is always free.

Educational Apps & Online Learning for Pre K-3rd Grade

Foot Steps to Brilliance

They have thousands of books and games to develop reading and writing skills. Our school is recommending 20 minutes a day on this app. I just registered Kenzie, our 4-year-old, for a free account through our county online. They are offering free 90 day memberships if your county isn’t set up with an account.

Clever Kids University Pre-Reader

This app was recommended for my 4-year-old pre-reader when we signed up for Foot Steps to Brilliance. Fun daily activities that prepare your child for kindergarten.

ABC Mouse – Use THIS LINK for 1 free month!

Kenzie my 4 year old is LOVING ABC Mouse! She is learning how to connect sounds to form word right now through the app. You can set each child up with their own profile and learning level. I have Kenzie on a Pre-K level and Piper on a 2nd Grade level. Both girls love ABC Mouse!

Mystery Science

Piper came home from school weekly so excited to tell me what she learned from Mystery Doug at Mystery Science. We’ve been watching an interactive video from this platform every few days, learning the answers to questions like How is a Rainbow Made? Why are Butterflies so Colorful? and Why Can’t Airplanes Fly to Space?

Art for Kids Hub

This is Piper’s favorite thing to do during screen time. They have a ton of great drawing tutorials perfect for kids! If she’s going to be in front of a screen she’s probably at Art for Kids Hub drawing!

Little Explorer Big World

This is a great resource for preschool-aged kids to explore world cultures, cultivate curiosity, and learn through play.

PBS Kids Lab

PBS Kids Lab has fun games and educational videos for literacy and math skills. They break it into age groups of 3-5 and 6-8.

Scholastic Remote Learning Resources for K-12

We just learned about Scholastic Remote Learning from Piper’s 1st-grade teacher. It’s broken up by grade level, starting at Pre K up to 9th grade. They have daily lessons that are fun for all ages. I’m looking forward to doing more of these with Piper and Kenzie.

Brain POP Jr.

Brain POP Jr. has a ton of curriculum to keep your kids interested in learning. Math, Science, Art, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Health. It’s such a great resource for kids! The have Brain Pop as well for older kids.

Cosmic Kids Yoga

Cosmic Kids Yoga is a fun way to listen to a story while getting exercise. You can find it a bunch of yoga videos for kids on YouTube but this is our favorite. I like to join in with them too.

Go Noodle

The girls have been Go Noodle fans for a while now. It’s a great app to get the wiggles out!

If you have great online resources or app you love for your kids let me know in the comments or message me on Instagram and I’ll add them in. We’re in this together and we’ll get through it together! Hang in there!
