A Doughnut Garden Party for Kenzie :: 1 Years Old!

About a week ago my sweet baby Kenzie turned ONE! I still can’t believe it!

I had so much fun putting together a Doughnut Garden Party to celebrate the first year of Kenzie’s life. In my opinion, all the details make a party and I had a great time planning and executing each one, using colorful homemade doughnuts (real &crocheted)  and flower puffs on top of swimming pool noodles for eye pooping decorations. Our take home ‘Doughnut seeds,’ bubble wands and sidewalk chalk were also a hit.

I’ve gone way overboard in the past with Piper’s birthday parties, especially her first birthday, so I decided to go mellow with Kenzie’s and keep it simple. A few creative details made the celebration look like I spent days and days on it when in reality it was pretty easy to put together with some help from my husband and favorite sister.

The day was perfect, an intimate party with family and a couple close friends. Kenzie woke up from her nap to a house full of family and colorful treats. It took her a bit to warm up to the fact that she was the center of attention for the day.

We kept food simple, which was the best decision! My sister made a bacon artichoke quiche that everyone LOVED. She did it crust-less so everyone including our gluten free family could enjoy it. Almost every guest asked for the recipe. So I included it if you click the underlined text. We bought bagels with a few spread options, lox, fruit, and of course mimosas. Our home-made doughnuts were another favorite and were so easy to make! We’ll launch the recipe on National Doughnut Day, June 3rd so be on the lookout.

The take-home goodies provided entertainment for the older kids. They spent the day playing with bubbles and drawing with sidewalk chalk. I made a fun “Feed Kenzie Doughnuts” game similar to pin the tail on the donkey that was a lot of fun.

feed her donutsWe set up our Guava Family Lotus crib with a blanket and a bunch of our favorite Lamaze baby toys for our littlest guests to enjoy and escape the sun. The big kids took over the “castle” once the little ones had left or went down for a nap. 🙂

You can’t have a first birthday party without a little cake smashing! Kenzie loved trying her sweet treat for the first time. It took her a minute to realize she could eat her cupcake but once she did she devoured the entire thing!

“Doughnut Seeds” otherwise known as Cheerio’s were a fun little detail very easy to make. The bigger kids got a kick out of them and the littles loved snacking on them.

The day was perfect. All the kids and adults had a great time. The most important thing is we were together celebrating our littlest love and the impact she has made on our lives.
