Easy DIY Lavender Wands

When I was little my mom used to make lavender wands for my sister and me when the lavender bushes were in bloom.  We’d make-believe we were flower fairies flying around with our lavender wands in delight.  All grown up I still have a special place in my heart for these simple-to-make wands. They remind me of my mother who I miss dearly every day. I have an abundance of lavender in my back yard now. Although the bushes attract a million honey bees they smell wonderful and every time I walk by them I feel like my mom is looking down at me smiling, especially when Piper is by my side.

Making Lavender Wands

To make a lavender wand you will need:

15-25 Lavender flowers with bottom leave removed all the same length

4 Small rubber bands, I used Goodie small baby hair bands

1 Ribbon about 15 inches long

Bunch the lavender together and cut the stems to the same length.

Wrap the rubber bands around the stems at the bottom, around the middle and two loosely over the flower towards the middle and top of the wand.

And voilà you have a lavender wand!

I don’t recommend these indoors unless you are using them as potpourri or a decoration. The flowers fall off easily and you will have a big mess on your hands if your little one is ‘flying’ around the house with it. I learned this the hard way. I don’t remember the mess as a kid. 🙂
