If you are new around here my name is Alia, Ali for short. I have 2 daughters, Piper and Kenzie who are 7 and 4 and we all LOVE the holidays! Living through the wonder in their eyes is the absolute best thing ever! Over the weekend we put up a tree for the girls. It’s the first time we’ve ever had a Christmas Tree up BEFORE Thanksgiving! I had some promotional work to do and needed a tree. SO the girls get their very own tree this year and I have a feeling this won’t be the last! We didn’t have enough ornaments to decorate 2 trees so we took the opportunity to have a little craft party and make our own DIY pinecone ornaments!
The girls and I had a great time crafting together and getting a head start on the magic of the Holiday season.

Supplies:
- Pinecones – We went for a walk around the neighborhood and collected pinecones. You can purchase them too if you don’t have pine trees nearby.
- Colored Paint – we used white and cherry blossom Handmade Modern Paint and Crayola Washable Paint for Kenzie since I didn’t want her to totally ruin her clothes. She’s 4 after all.
- Glitter – Extra fine glitter works best.
- Paint Brushes – if you have old ones I suggest using them, painting pinecones can easily ruin your brushes. If you don’t have old ones get some cheap ones!
Making your DIY Pinecone Ornaments:
It’s so easy a 4 year old can do it but fun for adults too!
- If you collected the pinecones yourself I recommend washing them first. Let dry completely.
- Paint your pinecone, make sure to get all the parts of the pinecone, inside the petals and out, but don’t worry about the bottom. I prefer to do a solid color paint and use the same color glitter over it. The girls loved using more than one color. It’s up to you!
- While the paint is still wet sprinkle with fine glitter over a container to catch remaining glitter.
- Let dry completely.
- Then shake the excess glitter off the pinecone over a container that will catch the glitter.
You can hot glue a ribbon to the Botton of the pinecone to hang on the tree but I just placed each pinecone onto the tree with the end facing in. They really make it sparkle and add some fun without spending a ton of money on ornaments!
There you have it! Super simple DIY pinecone ornaments that will have your tree sparkling in no time!
Most importantly, it’s a fun thing to do with your kids, family or friends!
