4 Days in South Lake Tahoe with Kids

We just got back from our vacation in South Lake Tahoe. Tahoe is a four-hour drive from our house so we try to go at least once a year. It is a quick road trip and the perfect change of scenery! In the winter snowy mountains, clear blue water, and crisp cold air, create the most beautiful views everywhere you look. Today we’re sharing our 4-day itinerary for South Lake Tahoe! 4 Days/3 Nights in South Lake Tahoe.

If you are headed to South Lake Tahoe there is no shortage of things to do and see. Especially if you like outdoor adventures! Spring break is coming! And this is the perfect destination for Spring break.

*This post is sponsored by South Lake Tahoe but all opinions, as always, are my own.

Spring break in South Lake Tahoe4 Days/3 Nights in South Lake Tahoe

Day 1 – Road trip!

We left the house around 10 am and got up to South Lake at 2:00 pm on the dot. Surprisingly, and for the first time ever, we made it through the 4 hour drive without stopping. There are perks to your kids getting older.

2 pm, Check-in at The Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (normal check-in is at 4 pm but we called and got an early check-in time).where to stay South Lake Tahoe

Watch the turtles in the lobby, and then unpack the car and get settled.

Have a snack. We packed a cooler with enough food for an army so we didn’t have to eat out every time the girls got hungry. I definitely recommend doing the same if you are traveling during C O V I D.

Take a walk around town. South Lake is such a cute town with a lot of small boutiques, a toy store, and restaurants to enjoy.

Have a snowball fight.

Play some games. The Arcades are open across the state line, which is only a couple of steps from the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. Harrah’s has a great arcade for kids.

Dinner out. Nevada is open for indoor dining, Tahoe has takeout and outdoor dining available. We ate in Nevada since it was so cold outside. It was the first time eating inside a restaurant in a year and it did feel a little weird.

Day 2 in South Lake Tahoe

Grab Breakfast from the hotel, bring it back to the room to eat.

Breakfast at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel

Pat went snowboarding at Sierra at Tahoe by himself to get a good day in on the advanced hills.

Distance learning for the girls & work for me until noon in the hotel, then snacks for lunch.

Go Sledding! The hotel lent us sleds to use right in the back of their property. There is a perfect hill to sled on right there making it easy

Build a snowman & a snowball fight. It isn’t a winter vacation without a snowman!

Rent skis from Rock House Discount Ski & Snowboards – they had a great deal for the junior ski and snowboard packages that included skis or snowboard, boots, optional polls if skiing, and a helmet for $22. We made an appointment online 3 days before and were in and out in less than 20 minutes. Pretty good for rental equipment for 2 kids.

Grab a cup of soup and hot chocolate from The Brewery at Tahoe. Oh and a beer if you like beer. They make their own right on-site, Pat said his beer was really good. The Brewery at Tahoe

Take a walk around the lake on the walking path. The view is breathtaking!

Get pizza delivered to the hotel room from Blue Dog Pizza.

Day 3 – Sierra at Tahoe

Breakfast at the hotel.

Hit the slopes!

Thank you Sierra at Tahoe for providing us with lift tickets and for an amazing day of riding!

kids skiing Spring Break

Head out to Sierra at Tahoe for a day skiing or snowboarding. About a 20-minute drive from the hotel.

We took the girls for the first time and it was so much fun! Sierra at Tahoe is the perfect place to learn to ski. They have a magic carpet that takes you up a small hill to begin on. I kept my snowboard off for the first 5 or 6 times up and down the bunny hill and held Kenzie up on a leash while she learned the basics of skiing. Pat helped Piper learn without a leash while on his snowboard. They both picked skiing up so quickly! Once Kenzie got the hang of it I strapped my board back on, took her leash off, and everyone was ready for the lifts!

Pat and I are so proud of the girls! They did so well! By the end of the day, they were even going off mini jumps in the snow park!Sierra at Tahoe learn to ski

We packed lunch and ate in the back of the car. Then got right back on the mountain for more runs and ended up closing down the slopes getting on the very last lift up the mountain at 4:00 pm. Piper and Kenzie didn’t want to stop skiing and can’t wait to go back. We’ll definitely be back at Sierra at Tahoe next winter for more skiing and snowboarding!

Return rental equipment.

Walk around town. Grab hot chocolate for the kids and take a look around.

Order takeout from the Hotel Restaurant, they have some really yummy mashed potatoes. Pack up and relax the rest of the evening.

Day 4 – Tube Tahoe

Breakfast at the hotel, it’s included so we definitely took advantage of eating at the hotel every morning during our stay.

Pack up the car to head back home.

On the way out of town…

Go tubing at Tube Tahoe! Thank you, Tube Tahoe for hooking us up with tickets for such a fun morning!

Where to go Tubing in South Lake Tahoe

Tubing is so much fun!  It’s also a bit of a workout walking up the hill. I wish I had my smartwatch on so I could have counted my steps and stories climbed. The girls had a blast tubing down the mountain all morning. It was the perfect way to get some energy out before climbing back in the car to drive home.
