Go fishing – bring your fishing gear with you or rent it. You can fish all year long at Bass Lake for Bass (fitting), Kokanee Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Carp, Catfish, Bluegill, and Crappie. You’ll want to go early in peek season before all the loud water sports start going.

Say hi to the ducks – if you wake up early and take a walk around the lake when it is quite the ducks will walk right up to you.

Play or relax on the beach – pack beach towels to lay on the beach and some sand toys for the kids.

Drive around the lake – The number one thing people suggested we do after we drove to Bass Lake was to take a drive around the lake. After being in the car for two and a half hours, I have to admit, the last thing we wanted to do was get back in the car and drive more. But I thought I’d mention it since it was recommended by so many!

Go for a hike – there are several hikes around the lake. Head here for some hiking recommendations.

Take a short drive to Yosemite.

In Yosemite, you’ll find hundreds of hiking trails. The closest trail to the Southern Wawona gate entrance is the Mariposa Grove trail which takes you to a grove of giant sequoia trees. It’s an easy hike to some beautiful trees!

If you have time for the drive, head to Half Dome.  It will take 2 hours from the South Gate but is worth it! There you’ll find giant waterfalls and astonishing views.  Don’t forget; you will need reservations to enter the park from May 30th to September 30th.  Check out Yosemite.com for everything you need to know about visiting Yosemite.

Head into Oakhurst

Eat at Southgate Brewing Company. The black bean burger and tacos tie for my favorite meal. If you order the tacos be ready for some spice. Added bonus is they offer gluten-free buns! According to my husband, the beer is really good too. Southgate Brewing Company is located at 40233 Enterprise Dr, Oakhurst, CA 93644

Stop for something sweet at Reimer’s Candies, Gifts & Ice Cream, Oakhurst, CA.

Go throw some Axes at Yosemite Axe Throwing. Axe throwing is becoming super popular; you can find them at 40761 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644. Or call them at 559-683-2937.  They have a location in South Lake Tahoe too!

Explore Coarsegold Historic Village

Coarsegold Historical Village is a tiny cultural district. You can pan for gold and shop for artisan-made items made on-site like wood-carved bears. You won’t miss it on Hwy 41. Just look for the giant Tee Pee on the side of the highway. I love stopping here for a quick walk around on the way out of town. 35300 Hwy 41 Coarsegold, CA 93614
