If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you already know how much we love Lake Tahoe. We try to make a yearly trip to Tahoe to play in the snow. After being stuck at home for the last year, I’m happy our adventures took us back to South Lake Tahoe.
South Lake Tahoe has a little something for everyone. Family-friendly activities, great food, shopping, plenty of ski resort options, and so much more. As the kids get bigger, our adventures do too. During this trip, we stayed at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, right on the state line. It was vital for us to feel as comfortable and safe as possible, being our first time venturing out for more than just a day trip since COVID. Luckily, The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA) has been approved by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) to use their global Safe Travels stamp to recognize the destination’s safe travel protocols. The Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is among the approved WTTC/LTVA safe travel businesses. There wasn’t a time I felt uncomfortable or unsafe in the hotel.
Differences in Travel During the Pandemic
If you haven’t traveled during the pandemic, there are a few differences to be aware of.
- You have to wear a mask when entering or exiting the property (pretty sure this is a given anywhere, but I wanted to list this detail).
- Update – as of our recent stay in March 2022 no masks are required in the hotel.
- There is no housekeeping during your stay. If you need extra supplies, they will bring them to you. Personally, I prefer not to have housekeeping come into my room while on trips anyway.
- In California (for now), there is no indoor dining allowed.
- Update – Indoor dining is available again!
- The same goes for indoor pools; they are all closed unless outdoors.
- Update – The pool and hot tub are open.
What We Loved About The Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel
The hotel staff was all so friendly.
They let the girls borrow sleds left behind by previous guests to sled down the hill behind the property.
Location, location, location.
It’s always such an important thing when traveling. The Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is perfectly placed in downtown South Lake Tahoe, right on the state line. You can walk to restaurants, Heavenly Mountain Resort, outdoor ice skating, and of course, the casinos. Indoor dining, casinos, and the kid’s arcades were all open in Nevada, just steps away.
Piper and Kenzie’s favorite part was the turtles and koi fish in the lobby’s giant pond. They would ask to watch them every time we were headed in or out of the hotel. I have to admit, the turtles were pretty cute. There were even some tiny ones that must have been babies.
Breakfast every morning.
On the second floor, the hotel served a freshly made breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, coffee, and juices. Due to the pandemic, they do not allow indoor dining, so you bring your meal back to your room to enjoy. The mornings eating together in our room were an excellent mellow start to each day.
Update – Breakfast is no longer included in your stay, you are able to purchase a breakfast buffet.
Spacious Rooms.
We had a premium 2 queen bed suite. It worked out great for our family of 4. The girls shared a bed, and we didn’t have to tiptoe around them or go to bed simultaneously since there is a separate room with seating, a dining table with 4 chairs, a TV, and a mini kitchen area.
Unfortunately, the pool and hot tub were closed since they are indoors but they do have a nice one. When things start to open up a bit more it would be the perfect place to relax while the kids play after a day on the slopes.
We love winter and summer adventures in South Lake Tahoe. Our stay at The Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel was exactly what we needed to ease us back into some travel adventures since COVID-19 hit the states. I definitely recommend staying here if you’re planning a visit to South Lake Tahoe.
