If you are looking for alternatives for trick-or-treating because your little one is sick or afraid of going door to door for candy I put a few together for you!
Alternatives to Trick-or-Treating
• Back Yard Candy Hunt
Just like Easter, hide candy in the yard and have the kids hunt for it. Do you want to make it extra special? Do a glow-in-the-dark candy hunt! Just add glow sticks to a small bag filled with treats to make them glow!
• Host a Halloween Party
Have a small get-together or a big one! Whether it’s family or friends, have a Halloween party to celebrate.
• Spooky Bat Hunt
Grab your hot cocoa, get in the car, and drive, or walk the neighborhood looking for bats in the windows or spooky Halloween decorations! We did this for Easter with Eggs in the windows and are putting a new spin on it for Halloween. Head HERE for a free bat printable you can cut out and put in your window!
• Halloween Themed Scavenger Hunt
Piper wants to do a Halloween scavenger hunt. We do a scavenger hunt for birthday gifts, and it’s always so much fun. We’ll have to come up with some spooky clues for a Halloween-themed hunt!
• Boo your friends!
I’m sure you’ve heard of this before. Anytime in the month of October, put together a basket of goodies for your friends. Leave the basket on their doorstep, ring the bell, and run! Include a note and keep it anonymous! My girls LOVE to BOO their friends every year! This year we’re planning on making our Boo baskets a little extra special.
Need a cute You’ve Been BOOed sign, or We’ve Been BOOed sign? Print these out! We’ve Been Booed! and You’ve Been BOOed!
Decor Side Notes: **You can find our new friend Yorrik, the lifesize skeleton, over at Party City! He just joined our spooky Halloween decor, and was only $39.99. He comes assembled, has a cord if you want to hang him up, and is 60” tall!
**Skulls were from the Dollar Store and I spray painted them with primer then painted them with acrylic paint.
Start a new tradition…Hallows Eve!
The Dorel Juvenile family of brands introduced… Hallows Eve! Where a “magical creature” named Hallows Eve hides candy all over the house. They say she is magical and mysterious, but don’t worry, she’s not scary. On Halloween night, kids dress up in costumes and look for the treats Hallows Eve hid throughout the house.
You can print out the story and the wish list below. I thought this was a cute idea!
We’re decorating early, and we’re not going to skip out on the pumpkin patching or carving this year!
