The To Do’s of Adulthood :: I’m 34

I turned 34 on Tuesday…T H I R T Y  F O U R ! ! !

Something about the number 34 makes me feel like I finally hit the adult mark. You are probably thinking “you hit that mark a long time ago!” and maybe you are right but it’s all in the way you perceive things, right? I know it is just a number but there is something about it and I can’t figure out what it is.

(written Tuesday, my actual birthday)

Soooooo…. I let my 3-year-old dress me this morning. She picked a tee shirt with flamingos on it and a black, grey and white mini skirt and black booties, surprisingly very on trend and actually matched well. This outfit makes me feel more like I’ve turned 24, which is a good feeling. Maybe I should let her pick my clothes out more often?

Top ((on sale))::  Skirt ((similar)) :: Booties

After dropping my 3-year-old off at preschool (p.s. I can’t believe she’s in REAL preschool this year!) and putting my 1-year-old down for her morning nap I proceeded to the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee. I left the kitchen with a bowl of coffee ice cream in addition to my espresso. Hey, I’m 34 today. I’m an adult, right? I can make my own decisions and coffee ice cream for breakfast sounded like a good one today. Perk number 1 about being a grown-up: The ability to eat ice cream at any time of day without permission.

Because I’m officially old I’m thinking of all the things I should be doing as an adult woman. I’ve got a lot of them done and am feeling pretty good about it but have some more to check off my list.

**This is my list in no way does this mean I think everyone needs to adhere to it by any means! Everyone is different and that’s what keeps things exciting in the world.

So here is my list:

[ √ ] Graduate College

[ √ ] Get a good job

[ √ ] Get married

(I dated my high school sweetheart for 11 years before we got married 🙂 there was no rush on this one!)

get married

[ √ ] Have 2-3 children

(I’ve got 2 girls, Piper and Kenzie, contemplating trying for a boy but I’m 99% sure we’d have another girl, and 3 teenage girls would probably send me to my grave)

[     ] Buy a house.

Working on it. A down payment in this area is almost the same as an entire house almost anywhere else in the US. Sometimes I wonder why we don’t just pick up and move somewhere where we could buy a nice house for a whole lot less. Then I think again and am 100% happy renting in California because…well, it’s California. We will buy someday soon-ish.

[     ] Save Money:

for retirement, college for the girls, and TWO weddings (another reason we shouldn’t have another kid, 3 weddings and we’d be working until we’re 90. I really want another one but it appears I’m trying to talk myself out of it today!)

[     ] Do something to make myself feel accomplished in my own right.

I’ve got plans for this one.

[     ] What else…?

I know I’m missing something.

I’m thinking 34 is going to be one of the best years yet, I’m confident with a positive view on this number and a little determination I can turn this year into one for the record book.

p.s. I want to thank my amazing husband for all the fun birthday celebrations he made happen for me! I’m so lucky to have you in my life babe!

I love this!! I turned 31 years old this year. I love the fact that I can say I’m in my 30s. I feel as if I’m taken more seriously. Buying a house is on our list too! We are in the same situation as you. To buy a house in our area is ridiculously expensive so coming up with the down payment is not easy!! Good luck on accomplishing your list!!

Looks like you have a little fashionista on your hands! I’m the middle of 3 girls, so I’m bias when I say that 3 girls would be AWESOME! Haha
