Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Before kids, my husband and I threw a pumpkin carving party annually and went all out with costumes. When Piper was born just 6 days before Halloween we knew the fun Halloween themed parties were bound to continue. Of course, they change quite a bit… fewer drinks and more bobbing for apples type stuff. For Piper’s 6th birthday, she requested a Haunted Tea Party & Costume Party. It turned out so cute!

Creating a Haunted Tea Party
This might just be the easiest party ever if you already decorate for Halloween! We like to deck our home out in spooky Halloween decor, creating instant party decor for a costume party! The more decorations the better and the best part, you can leave it up for the whole month of October!
The Activities:
I like to keep things simple for kid’s parties. They like the freedom to just play whatever they want. So we usually stick to 2 activities.
- Lunch with “tea” (the tea was apple juice and fruit punch)
- Pumpkin decorating
- Dessert
On the kid’s menu:
Peanut Butter and Jelly Spider Sandwiches. Use pretzel sticks for the legs and raisins for the eyes. I used peanut butter to stick the eyes in place.
Jack-O-Lantern Cuties (tip: to draw on small oranges you need special paint pens. I tried markers and regular sharpies with no success)
Ghost Cheese Sticks (Not pictured) Just draw 2 eyes on the back of the plastic wrapper with your paint pen.
Extra fruit and crackers in bowls at the table.
A Halloween Charcuterie Board is a perfect appetizer for the party! Read more on how to make it HERE.
Skeleton Charcuterie Board
I’m adding this skeleton charcuterie board to our Halloween traditions! We used an old broken skeleton from our Halloween decorations. I gave Mr. Skeleton a bath in the sink and used postal wrapping paper to line the table and then added popcorn, fruit, crackers, cheese, and some wrapped candy to make it a fun spooky spread! Using larger items like popcorn to help fill in space is really helpful!
For another spooky idea try these Monster Fruit Cups from Daily Momtivity.
Hunted Tea Cups for the Tea Party
I bought teacups from The Good Will and drew spiderwebs on them to make “spooky teacups” these were probably my favorite detail at the party.
You can’t draw on porcelain cups with just any marker. Use these:
Want to learn how to draw spiderwebs? Here’s a quick spiderweb drawing tutorial. It’s so easy Piper helped with several of them!
Next up. Pick your own pumpkin then decorate it!
A Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Decorating.
We went to a local pumpkin patch and bought 20 small pumpkins to make our own pumpkin patch so the guests could pick which one they wanted. All you have to do is group them together and add a hand-drawn “Piper’s Pumpkin Patch” sign and you have a cute personal pumpkin patch!
Since Piper was turning 6 we opted for pumpkin decorating instead of pumpkin carving. That way the kids could all just go for it without needing too much help from parents. Plus there was much less mess as pumpkin carving gets messy.
Everything you need for decorating pumpkins is linked.
For Dessert:
My friend Crystal from Mrs. K Teaches made Piper a really fun spooky cake! All the kids loved it.
Making my girls smile is what I live for! Piper had the best time at her Haunted Tea Costume Party and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for a party theme this year!
I hope you find some ideas for creating your own Haunted Tea Party!
Happy Halloween!
