The girls collected so many shells at Pajaro Dunes Beach so we’ve been trying to figure out what to do with them all. I asked in my Instagram stories for some ideas on what to do with seashells and someone mentioned DIY mermaid crowns. Thank you for the perfect idea! The girls and I had such a fun time making them!
We’re ready for all the mermaid mania! Piper has always loved The Little Mermaid, Ariel is her most favorite princess. These crowns and wands would be the perfect addition to any mermaid costume for Halloween or a fun craft for a mermaid themed birthday party! Alright, here’s how to make your own mermaid crowns and magic seashell wands!
DIY Mermaid Crowns & Magic Mermaid Wands
So I cheated a little and bought crowns and wands at the dollar store to hot glue the shells onto. Add a little glitter and voila the simplest mermaid crowns and wands ever! They are magical!
Supplies You’ll Need:
A store-bought crown and/or wand, or headbands
Seashells
Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue
Glitter (optional)
These were so easy to make and my girls love them! It’s an added bonus this is something you can make together with your children. We made a few different Mermaid Crown styles and learned that the crowns get heavy the more shells you put on. AND they are fragile! Of course, shells break if you drop them. Be careful!
The crown above is more a decoration because it is so heavy. It already shattered once. Adding a ribbon to the back to keep it held onto the head has been helpful. I still don’t trust it not to break.
Piper designed her own crown it’s a lot lighter since there are fewer shells making it much more wearable.
Wands are easy to make! You can do one shell in the center or deck them out in shells. Again, if you use too many it’ll be heavy.
We had a box of headbands from another craft so Piper decided to grab a few and decorate them with the smaller shells. Both girls have been wearing them all the time. They really are darling. Piper’s my little designer in the making.
Here are some more photos because I am always a little heavy on the photos.
One quick reminder, if you are making crowns or wands with young kids, be careful with the hot glue gun. The last thing anyone wants is a little one to get burned. Have fun making memories together! If you make crowns tag me on Instagram and I’ll share your photos in my stories!
