Did you know that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean if we don’t make a change? That is a scary statistic. We can make a difference. Currently, 2,000 plastic water bottles are used EVERY SECOND in the U.S. Every second you guys…that is an insane number. If not recycled, plastic water bottles take 450 years to decompose. My point?
Ditch the plastic and make a difference.
This post is sponsored by Brita but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
I’m happy to be a supporter of the Brita Filtering Bottle.
With Brita, you can replace 1,800 single-use plastic bottles a year. As a community in the US alone we spend $13 billion on bottled water each year. Unfortunately, 70% of plastic bottles are not recycled. Another scary fact, enough plastic to fill a dump truck ends up in oceans every single minute.
Our family is a huge advocate for minimizing plastic use. From washable/reusable straws to filling our own water bottles whenever we leave the house, each bit of effort helps our environment. The place where our children have to live and their children and so on. I’m not claiming I’m perfect. Sometimes I forget to pack our reusable water bottles, but each time I do remember it helps a little bit. Every little bit helps.
Why we love Brita Filtering Bottle?
In addition to Brita Filtering Bottle keeping us from buying plastic water bottles while we’re out and about, it also has a filter in the straw. Causing that maybe not so great water to be clean enough to drink and makes it taste great.
This is perfect for me and my family, especially when we’re out of the house and need great tasting water, without the waste. Now, we can just fill out at any fountain and the Brita Filtering Bottle will take care of the filtering for us! My point is, you are filtering the water you and your family are drinking and, reducing the amount of plastic that will likely end up in the ocean one day, AND saving money all at the same time. It’s a win-win.
How YOU can help reduce plastic in the ocean
- Reduce your use of single-use plastics by using a refillable water bottle like the Brita Filtering Bottle.
- Participate in a beach or river clean up.
- Stop purchasing products with microbeads in them – microbeads are tiny bits of plastic that get washed down the drain and swept right into the ocean, look it up, you might be surprised what they are in!
- Clean your recyclables before placing in the recycling bin.
- Teach your children good habits when they are young, like using the Brita Filtering Bottle, the right way to recycle and so on.
- Spread the word.
Let’s make an effort to keep our planet clean for all the generations to come.
