How I Started Blogging + 7 Tips for Starting a Blog

“How did you get into blogging?” I can’t even count how many times I’ve been asked this question. My story might be a little bit different than other bloggers. This is my second blog. The first, I learned a lot from, a lot about what works and what doesn’t work. The second time around I have a lot more knowledge and treat it as a job rather than a hobby. Contrary to a lot of peoples perception, staring a blog and keeping it going is a lot of work. It doesn’t happen overnight. Blogging is a throw yourself in, and learn as you go type of job. I never really thought blogging would be my main source of income but it has blossomed into just that. Ok so here’s the answer to the question everyone seems to ask…

Q. “How did you get into blogging?”

A. As one blogging journey came to an end a new one began. I’m not a loud person, people tease me that I should be quieter all the time. It can be hard for me to get my thoughts out in a conversation with a group of people. I’m just not very outgoing. I’m the shy one, although as I get older that is a little less true. Stories and video are definitely out of my comfort zone but I’m working on that!

I started blogging to speak my mind without interruption. I have things to say, things I want to remember, and photos I love to share. I’m passionate about all of the topics I write about. Telling stories through images is a creative outlet for me. I’m not the best writer or photographer but that’s not the point. Capturing moments to remember is the goal. If I can help people along the way with advice on traveling to certain destinations with their children, inspiring fashion, and giving tidbits of parenting advice, then that is a win in my book.

The thing most people don’t realize is that blogging is a lot of work. It’s not just getting “free stuff” in the mailbox all day long…

I blog because I love it. My passion turned into an income. I didn’t start this to make money, but that is an added bonus that helps keep this blog going. I started blogging over 4 years ago. Ali-ish has been live since February 2018, it took me about 3 months to get what I feel is decent traffic to my site and then I started making money. It wasn’t until I launched Ali-ish that I felt successful in blogging. Success isn’t always measured in money, for me, it’s more about reaching people with something they want to read.
