Davenport Glass Beach :: Mother’s Day Recap + $1,000 Gucci Giveaway!

Excuse me for a minute I’m about to get sappy… but don’t worry I have a really good giveaway going on at the end of this post to make up for it! There are so many reasons I’m the luckiest lady alive; this amazing family of mine, the amazing place we live, good health, work, the list goes on and on. My three made this Mother’s Day perfect, and a trip to Davenport’s Glass Beach topped it off! If you’re looking for an amazingly beautiful beach to visit in California, Davenport Glass Beach is definitely high up there on my favorite list!

The Beach is my happy place. My mom used to take us to Davenport Glass Beach when we were little to search for sea glass. I didn’t think of it at the time but this was the perfect beach to go to on Mother’s Day, not only to celebrate with my cuties but to honor my mother who is no longer with us.

Glass Beach is a short hike from the road and it is beautiful this time of year with all the wildflowers.

When we were small you could find the most beautiful sea glass at any time of day washing up in the waves. Now its a bit harder, you have to go when the tide is washing up the rocks early in the morning. I’ve heard a few different stories about why there is so much sea glass. There is a glass factory right next to the beach. I heard there was a big flood and the Davenport River flooded the glass factory pulling bins and bins of glass out to the water, I’ve also heard the glass factory used to ditch all broken glass into the ocean to dispose of it back in the 70’s. I’m not sure which story is true.

The beach has the most beautiful caves, unfortunately, some have been tagged with graffiti. They are still gorgeous.

Any day relaxing on the beach is a good one. When its Mother’s Day and your kids and husband are especially nice to you it’s even better.

One of my favorite things is that you have to hike in and out of the Davenport Glass Beach. I love hiking and hiking to a rewarding destination is even better. The scenery was amazing. There is an old train track littered with wildflowers where the girls made bouquets and sang as they walked along the abandoned tracks it was the sweetest thing ever…seriously.

 

My three really did a great job making me feel spoiled on Mother’s Day. They cooked me breakfast, gave me the sweetest handmade gifts and took me on a beach picnic at Davenport Glass Beach, one of my all-time favorite California beaches. I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother’s Day. If only we could press repeat and do this every weekend!
